Our Funding

Our funding provides up to $1,300 per applicant to spend on C-PTSD specialised therapy. The We Can Recover charity is dedicated to bridging the gap in subsidised therapy for individuals living with Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (C-PTSD) who are on a low income (earning under $61k pr/yr or more for people with children).  Our organisation steps in to provide financial assistance for therapy once existing subsidised options have been fully utilised.

Our goal is to enable those living with C-PTSD, particularly those with limited financial means, to access a full year of continuous therapy. However, there may be instances where our funding is insufficient to subsidise the entire 12 months of therapy. To address this, we have compiled a document that outlines additional funding options available and explains how our support can be integrated with these resources. For more information and to understand how you can maximise the benefits of our funding, please click here.

Finding Specalised C-PTSD Treatment

Individual Therapy

Research has shown the efficacy of long term, specialised psychotherapy for the treatment of C-PTSD.

There are many types of therapies that have been shown to be effective in the treatment of C-PTSD such as the conversational model of psychotherapy, eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing, somatic experiencing and dialectical behavioural therapy. However, regardless of the modality of therapy being used it is important that the therapist has undergone advanced training in the treatment of C-PTSD. As such, our funding is for those working with an ANZAP,  Blue Knot or Complex Trauma WA therapist only. These are the three organisations in Australia that train therapists to treat C-PTSD and they each have a data base of C-PTSD specialist therapists.  If a therapist is not registered with ANZAP or Blue Knot, but they have adequate training and experience in treating C-PTSD then they can apply with an easy online application form with Blue Knot here.

More about ANZAP and Blue Knot;

  1.  Australian and New Zealand Association of Psychotherapy (ANZAP). ANZAP trains experienced practitioners in the Conversational Model (CM). The CM is an evidence-based psychotherapy for working with complex trauma, personality disorders and other treatment resistant conditions. Therapists on this data base have completed the highest standard of training in psychotherapy and have a high level of personal awareness.
  2. Blue Knot Foundation the National Centre of Excellence for Complex Trauma. If you have experienced abuse, neglect, violence or exploitation as a child you can speak with a Blue Knot Helpline and Redress Support Service trauma counsellor. The Blue Knot Helpline and Redress Support Service can provide referrals to therapists and agencies with expertise and experience in supporting people with experiences of complex trauma.
  3. Complex Trauma WA, Has established an online spatial directory of complex trauma-trained practitioners for those seeking best-practice treatment. Their goal is to reduce the impact of complex trauma through community education, practitioner training and workshops, promotion of internationally recognised best practice guidelines, and collaborative advocacy for those with a lived experience.

We know how daunting it can be to be at the beginning of your journey with finding a therapist and accessing financial subsidies. If this is you and you have explored the above information and still feel a bit lost, please feel free to send an email to wecanrecovr@gmail.com, and one of our volunteers will be happy to assist you further.

Private Hospital Programs

Across Australia, there are many private hospital programs that specialise in the treatment of CPTSD. This can include inpatient day programs that can run between three to twelve months and longer live-in intensive inpatient treatment. These programs are specialised and evidenced based, often with some of the most regarded doctors and specialists in the field. These programs can be highly effective in the treatment and recovery of C-PTSD and its co-morbid diagnosis.  To find a hospital program, do a google search of 'C-PTSD private hospital and your town'.
